“If you’re not your own worst critic, you’re probably not very good.”
This is a quote I’ve told people about for years. But in all honesty it’s always been more of a reminder to myself more than anything. A reminder that perfection in the hearts of creators is unattainable, including myself, but that’s the point. While the end product is what everyone sees, it’s the effort to reach that end product (perfect or not) that is important and often the harder part. Did I do everything I could have within the constraints of time, tools, money, etcetera? Great, then the product is finished. Finished is more important than perfect and they are never the same thing. But on the journey to finished – criticism, self imposed or otherwise, plays a key role.
